Bye Bye, July! Hello, August!
July came into the neighborhood a month ago fully expecting to spend her days decked out in shorts and tank tops. She was ready with the fans and the iced tea. But when she rolled into town, she had to roll over a fog bank and that fog bank lingered all month. She had to dig out her sweats and flannels, peer out at the gray skies, and drink her coffee while watching the early morning mist fall. Sure, most days the fog had cleared by late afternoon but that didn’t mean it was warm. She missed her blue sky days and the feeling of heat on her skin. So last night she gladly packed up her bags and stepped out the back door, eager to be on her way hoping for a sunnier summertime next year.
And August? He slammed the front door on his way in. He’s kind of a cranky dude these years. He used to love his long dog days, when the kids would chill in the neighborhood, playing baseball after dinner and giving nary a thought to school days. Now? Now August is forced to bring structure and school to the world. That’s not fair! Why take away his leisure and make him the bad guy? He used to be able to offer lazy days and leave the burden of the first day of school to September. But now everyone raises their eyebrows and harangues him for bringing summer to an abrupt ending. He says he’s going to push the fog bank away and make the skies blue again. Okay, August, but please don’t make the skies smokey.
To make up for the school thing, August has planned a wonderful display of naked ladies. At least the kids can wave at them as they ride the bus to school.
The months dance and shove and sleepily step their way through 2025. How about the people? How about you? Are you whirling your way or maybe slamming doors on old months and looking hopefully at new arrivals?

Ah August. Great August! The heart of summer heat has passed. The shadows lengthen. Harvest time draws near. Ever so often one catches hints of autumn in the air. August, shy September and vigorous October- all have first claims on this old man's heart. ❤️
