❤️Hopefully Steven will just want to shine light brighter than ever now 🌟He knows, and we know that TRUTH sets us free ..and I bet he knows like we know..that LOVE ,conquers all 🌟♥️💪
We have not heard the last from Mr. Colbert - by a long shot. This chorus will never be silenced. David Dark, in his book We Become What We Normalize (2023) quoted author Claudine Rankine who wrote: "If you don't name what's happening, everyone can pretend its not happening." Fight the good fight, Gracie. Thank you for your voice.
You are right, ROb. We have not heard the last from Colbert. In fact, I was delighted so see a short video from him in which he referenced the possibility of running for the Senate from South Carolina. How cool would that be!?
With his intelligence, I’d hope for (an eventual ascension to) a “higher calling.” Clowns (both elected and electorate) can’t save the world. Maybe comedians can?
I always appreciate your thoughtful, reflective, and humble words, Gracie. They often carry a sense of sadness as you reflect on a world now seen through the lens of age, but also one scarred by a frightening present and a murky future. Yet, you always hold on to something beautiful and loving... Nature, flowers, family, kindness, and the great mystery of life itself.
Regarding Colbert, watch this space. Maybe he will show up here. Many who left or were fired from other media outlets are bringing their journalism to Substack.
Most of the time I can embrace curiosity. Occasionally after an especially difficult day, curiosity might slip out with doubt. They might go have a drink, and reminisce about the good old days but curiosity always comes back.
If it makes you feel any better, I did not know about the protest in honor of John Lewis. Maybe I missed it because the governor was in town and I did some things related to her listening tour. But I heard ours was sparsely attended, as well.
Yes, I imagine people where not aware as I don't think it was well publicized. I am disappointed with the resistance leadership. I wish they would plan regular marches and publicize that widely. I get nearly daily emails from Indivisible but their focus is generally fundraising. I'm getting discouraged with them.
Time to pull up the blinds and really take a look at what is happening all around us because those we pay way too much to “not do the job “are flipping “we the people” off. Truly, is there a happy side to this fact?
Yes, even at church today people were noticeably worn down. But holding on and talking straight must go forward. Thank you again for always doing both!
Thank you for writing this and sharing the interview. I love Colbert and also this you wrote: "I will only get so many hours, so many days, weeks, before this life ends. I want to notice the enjoyable days and the hard days. I want to take the hard days and turn them into reminders that everyone suffers. Maybe my hard day can be used in some way to connect to others, to connect to humanity. Maybe I can accept, with gratitude, the world as it is. The days, good or bad, ARE a gift." A great philosophy to live by.

I hope Stephen lands somewhere where is compassion and sense of humor can bring people to a place of kindness and generosity.

Thanks for your kind words.

Thank you for such lovely words, Michael! I do make my best effort to find and share beauty of all kinds b/c how else dos one get up in the morning?
I hope he does show up here on Substack!
I agree. It gives us something to hold onto, to be thankful for, and, as the name of your Substack states, to stay curious! 🌞

Thanks for supporting your governor.

I can't find a happy side, Murie. I get that it's going to be a long fight but we need people to show up NOW.

Insightful, and true. He will find another stage, and I’ll find him. Still, a sad statement of these times.
He is remarkable, if you ask me. He is smart and funny AND kind and thoughtful. I hope his humor can find an even broader audience.
SO MUCH YES to all of this. Wise wise words, from Colbert and from you. Thank you.
Thank YOU, for reading and responding, Emily.
Thanks Gracie.
You're welcome, Michael. I have to find the light somewhere, heh? Thanks for reading and responding.
