I know! I'm not ready for fall yet either but when school starts, that whole ball gets rolling. And, tbh, by the time September arrives, we really need the rain so fall is good then.
Can you tell me what you like about August? I used to like it more but now it often just seems hot and smokey and school gets dropped on everyone. Don't get me wrong. I would go to school all the time, if I could, but, as a kid, I hated school so there is some association there. My top three months are April, May, and maybe December.
I'm not sure why. I conceived a liking only a few years back. Maybe inchoate memories from past lives. Driving sheep up to high pasturages now clear of snow. Rolling hills of wheat and grapes readying for harvest. Long wood boats, ornately carved, hung with lanterns, gliding on a glassy river in the evening, the flood season now past.
Gracie , This piece is pure poetry!! I started to love the months and to have “feelings” for them! They sound a lot like I feel these days. Now I can say, “hey, months, shape up or ship out”!!
Of course I then started to feel sorry for the months, like they are our pets, needing water and walks and most of all love. You have described empathy … I hope for all the month’s sakes we start to empathize in an adult and purposeful well…. Like looking at the months’ Grandmother,(earth) and empathizing toward her and figuring out how to take care of her in the best way possible…. 👏🏻💕🌏🌍🌎🌈
I DO like to anthropomorphize things like months. Somehow making them like human beings makes them more - what? relatable? 🤣 I'm glad you enjoyed the piece. xxx
I am seeing that too, Bruce. We are losing that lovely morning light and the evenings are starting to get a tad shorter. The pace will pick up soon though and we will be back to that dark place ..... and , with any luck, back into the light next spring!
Happy August
Thank you! Back at you!
Love this Gracie! Hanging on to Summer... Not ready for fall.

I'm glad to see July out the door. But I love August. One of my three favorite months!

I’m noticing the trend of ever earlier sunsets and what the world will be like when things swing back the other way again…very different!
